Infosys Layoffs: 700 Freshers Terminated, NITES Files Complaint Over ‘Illegal’ Job Cuts

Infosys is facing backlash following the termination of around 700 freshers, prompting a formal complaint by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES). The IT employee association has accused Infosys of illegal and unethical layoffs, filing a petition with the labour ministry against the Narayana Murthy-led company.

Harpreet Singh Saluja, NITES president, stated in a letter to Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya that affected employees had already faced a two-year delay in joining after receiving offer letters. NITES has urged the government to investigate the layoffs under the Industrial Disputes Act of 1947, calling for penal action and reinstatement of terminated employees.

The complaint highlights that Infosys did not provide prior notice or severance packages, leaving employees in financial distress. Meanwhile, Infosys defended its move, citing an existing policy where freshers must clear assessments within three attempts to continue employment—a practice followed for over two decades.
